A Cry For Justice

Awakening the Evangelical Church to Domestic Violence and Abuse in its Midst

Thursday Thought — It’s the Abuser’s Choice

Another gem from the GEMS page:

You can lead an abuser to God’s mercy, but you can’t make him drink.

Oh wise one! So true and so heart breaking.
This is one only God can reach.

It finally occurred to me one day that perhaps it’s wasn’t God not answering my prayers but my husband not listening to God’s call to him on my behalf.

Quite true and profound!! I know I’ve said this before “often”, but when the pastor I went to for advice because of the abuse in the lack of marriage I was in and even now having divorced, still am to a different degree; his quote was, “We’ve just got to get him saved!!” Since God is the only one with that capability through Jesus Christ, I’m thinking that was about the most backwards thing I ever heard from this man’s mouth. WE did not have that power. I didn’t bother going back for further counseling after that. I found a good Christian counselor that understood the dynamics of abuse who helped me get through the divorce.

    So true.

This is a very insightful comment. I was told most of my life that wives were to continue endlessly to support their abusive husbands. I always struggled with that concept.
